It is believed that Richard Joyce made the original Claddagh ring around 1690. He lived in a little fishing village called the Claddagh near Galway city. The popularity of the Claddagh was helped by the vast exodus from Ireland to all over the world because of the great Famine in 1847-49. This piece of jewellery is individually and painstakingly crafted by hand.
