Pendent - Small Harp

The Harp is one of the world's oldest instruments based on the ancient lyre. It now symbolises Ireland's rich Musical history. Harps from this historical past including the world famous Brian Boru Harp are now housed in Trinity College and the National Museum Dublin. These unique designs are brought to life by the ancient art of enamelling, for which Ireland has been famous since earliest times. For more than half a century the dedicated craftspeople of Tara Jewellery have given great pride in continuing this traditional art to create original and beautiful pieces of quality Irish jewellery. Once a design has been impressed into the base metal, vibrantly coloured grains of enamel ae stripped by hand onto the pieces to bring the full spectrum to this unique craft style. The completed pieces are then fired, by hand, under intense flame in order to melt the coloured sand grains into glass. The colour of the enamel brightens during this firing process to a great degree, thus illuminating the artwork. Following several other finishing and polishing operations the piece is finally plated in 18 carat gold. In all it takes over 20 seperate stages of handcrafting to produce just one unique item of jewellery.
