The Celtic High Crosses with panelled figurations of sriptural themes were mainly carved in the ninth and tenth cebtuary. These show various scenes from the old and new testaments and were used by monks and preachers to bring alive the stories from the bible. Although no full Nativity scene (as depicted nowadays) exists on these crosses, elements do, and these have been used as the inspiration for the creation of this nativity set by Kieran Forde. The inspiration for Kieran Fords' work comes from both traditional and modern sources. His reproduction of ancient carvings from the monuments of Ireland, are renowned for their accuracy and detail, while many of his more fundamental pieces often draw their detail from these same sources. Taking native stone, Kieran and his team individually handcast at their workshop, each of the splendid items in their unique range. These creations, with all the character and qualities of stone make a wonderful gift.
