tapestryWeaving Dreams is unusual in that the enterprise's origins stem from an educational project called The Shanty Educational Project, which was set up in 1986 by a group of women concerned about the future of the Tallaght communities. The year long educational programes run by The Shanty are aimed at developing personal skills and community leadership, allowing women catch up on educational opportunities missed in their teenage years.

Just over six years ago Mary O'Rourke, a Textile Artist and designer, specialising in wools, traditional dying and spinning techniques began the peace angelgiving spinning courses for The Shanty women at her studio in the beautiful, unspoilt Glensamole valley of the Dublin mountains. The concept of Weaving Dreams resulted from the women's enthusiasm and ability at acquiring skills to spin fleece.

The Peace Angel has been design by Mary to mark the spirit of reconciliation in the North of Ireland. It is handfelted and assembled by the women of Weaving Dreams.
