Michael Casey

The Celtic Roots studio is a new sculpture studio, established by Bord na Mona in association with the renowned bogwood sculptor Michael Casey. The studio represents this sculptor, whose work has gained considerable recognition in Ireland and abroad. Casey has trained local young artists to work the bog oak, yew and pine and to appreciate the wealth and beauty of these ancient woods carbondated to over 5,000 years.

heronAt the Celtic Roots studio near Ferbane, Co. Offaly, Michael Casey and his team create their elegant and dramatic forms. Their craftsmanship is a celebration of our rich Irish heritage and our unspoiled environment. Their inspiration is the natural hinterlands of the midlands. "The artist who lives along the shores of Lough Ree, Co. Longford has a lifelong fascination with the heron. In these sculptures designed for the studio, he has tried to recreate a moment in the life of this beautiful solitary bird as he finds it gazing at the heavens and the world around it."

"The strength and uniqueness of Michael Casey's work does owe much to that peculiar quality in his medium by which a remarkable variety of shapes even primal shapes, may present themselves to the artist."

Liam Clancy has been a student of the Celtic Roots studio since it establishment. Having trained under the sculptor Michael Casey, he completed his four year apprenticeship. Liam has now joined the studio as a full-time sculptor. His own original designs are part of the studio's overall collection and have been inspired by the natural surroundings of Ferbane, Co. Offaly, where he lives.

Stephen Moore also trained under Michael Casey and is now a fulltime sculptor with the Celtic Roots studio. The studio is delighted to present for the first time, his own original designs. They are a celebration of life, its joys and pleasures.

dancerCeltic Roots and its artists are very proud of the new tradition that it is creating with this age old material. The studion also produces special one off commissions, awards collections and corporate gifts.

Clients include most of Ireland's top companies, banks and art collectors. Among the proud owners of our sculptures are former Irish President Mary Robinson, President Bill Clinton, President Nelson Mandela, Yassar Arafat, past and present Taoisigh of Ireland and numerous visiting prime ministers and heads of state.

golferHuman effort, commitment and determination result in great achievements. They deserve recognition of the highest standard. Just as each achievement is unique so too should be each reward.

So when you must award, congratulate or simply acknowledge, do so uniquely and individually with an exclusive gift or sculpture from the Celtic Roots studio.

Like all great achievements, it will be treasured and remembered forever.
